Transaction Fee = (Sale Price + Shipping Charged) × 6.5%

Payment Fee = (Sale Price + Shipping Charged) × Rate% + Fixed

Net Profit = Sale Price − Transaction Fee − $0.20 − Payment Fee − Shipping Cost − COGS

Does Etsy charge the transaction fee on shipping too?+

Yes — Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to both the item price AND any shipping fee you charge the buyer. This means if you charge $35 for an item and $5 for shipping, the fee is calculated on $40, not just $35. Our calculator handles this correctly.

What is the Etsy listing fee?+

Etsy charges $0.20 to list an item, and the same $0.20 every time that item sells (auto-renewal). If you sell multiple quantities of the same listing, each sale renews the listing for another $0.20. This calculator includes the listing renewal fee on every sale calculation.

What are Offsite Ads and do I have to pay them?+

Etsy automatically advertises your listings on Google, Facebook, and other platforms. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges you 15% (or 12% if you made over $10K on Etsy in the past 12 months). Sellers under $10K/year can opt out; above that it's mandatory.

What margin should I target on Etsy?+

Most experienced Etsy sellers aim for 40–60%+ net margin after all fees. Etsy's fee stack (6.5% transaction + 3% payment + $0.20 listing) adds up to roughly 10–12% of revenue before your own costs. Digital downloads offer the highest margins (70%+) since there are no material or shipping costs.

How does free shipping affect my Etsy fees?+

When you offer free shipping, you absorb the shipping cost yourself but the 6.5% transaction fee is only charged on the item price (since no shipping is charged to the buyer). This reduces your total Etsy fees but increases your net cost. Use the calculator with "Shipping Charged to Buyer = $0" to see the true margin.

Does Etsy Plus affect fees?+

Etsy Plus costs $10/month and gives you 15 listing credits and $5 Etsy Ads credit. The transaction and payment processing fees remain the same.
